Our first series of Locks with Montana sapphires. First a bit about them:
It was in the late 1800’s that the deposits of sapphire were first recorded in Montana. These were first discovered by people mining for gold in Montana. It was in 1895 that a man named Jake Hoover collected enough blue pebbles to fill a cigar box which he sent to one of the best known jewelers of the time, Tiffany & Co. It was the famed Dr. George Frederick Kunz, who worked for Tiffany’s at the time who first identified them as sapphire. This cigar box of blue pebbles was never returned to Mr. Hoover. In its place a check for payment for the pebbles arrived.
This Medium Stoned Lock is 2.5cm long and 10MM wide and the Lock itself has a circumference of 3mm with the closure at 5.5MM. The Medium is smaller than a Regular, larger than a Baby and a bit smaller than our Heartlock. Please see The Guide to It All for more size context.
